As of June 1, 2014, occupational therapists practice within the state of Colorado must be licensed. In order to receive a license in Colorado applicants must have received either a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education of the American Occupational Therapy Association. A minimum of 24 weeks of clinical experience during an internship or work experience is also required. Applicants must pass both a background check and the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy exam. Once you have become a licensed occupational therapist in the state of Colorado, it is not currently required that you complete continuing education. However, beginning in 2015, this will change and it will be mandatory that all licensees complete continuing education; although, those specific requirements are not yet available.
